NGO

Staff from Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) are often exposed to more serious risks than most casual or business travellers. As a consequence, NGO staff are far more likely to be affected by violent crimes, including kidnapping. There are often militant, criminal and sometimes rogue state actors who operate in environments where NGO staff are deployed. The elevated threat requires organisations to make provisions for their staff members, including carrying out risk assessments, designing security plans and instilling detailed crisis management procedures. The response24 membership has been designed to help NGOs to increase their risk management capabilities, proving global protection from dedicated security professionals.

Example:

An NGO receives reports from the field that one of their staff members has been kidnapped by local militants. The NGO has crisis management plans in place but has never had to deal with a kidnapping incident before. Staff members are deeply concerned about their colleague who has been taken to an unknown location, and news of the incident has been leaked to the media. If they are response24 members, a security team will be deployed to support them. A hostage negotiator with experience of the country and its actors liaises with the kidnappers, while another response consultant is deployed to the NGOs headquarters to support the management team and operational staff.
